The Third KU-COIL Workshop and Symposium
The third KU-COIL Workshop and Symposium was held at Senriyama Campus from December 1 to 3, hosted by the Division of International Affairs.
The workshop and symposium titled "Contemporal Pedagogy and Assessment Methods in International Education" was held with the aim of examining the educational effects of applying COIL, Collaborative Online International Learning, and to further promote understanding of the COIL approach among educational staff inside and outside the university.
COIL is a teaching and learning approach utilising Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to create virtual learning environments to provide shared courses across educational institutions worldwide. Kansai University was first among Japanese universities in applying COIL in 2014. Since then, we have expanded our international network with 18 universities over 10 countries, and have implemented classes across a total of 46 subjects.
Specialists in educational internationalization -- including Taka Horio, Deputy Director of the Office for International Planning, the Higher Education Bureau, MEXT, and Karen Kelly of the U.S. Embassy Osaka -- were invited to the symposium, which was a good opportunity to promulgate information about our efforts and achievements with COIL.
