“Making Farm/Mountain Villages Second Homes through Continuous Engagement” Accepted for FY2007 Good Practice Program by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.

1. Category: Contribution to Regional Activation
2. Term: FY2007-2009
3. Title: “Making Farm/Mountain Villages Second Homes through Continuous Engagement”
4. Contents: This project is a 21st century-type second home making, connecting complementary needs of depopulated farm/mountain villages and those of urban college students. Today, many urban college students and graduates with their family long for home villages with rich nature. On the other hand, farm/mountain villages can offer rich human resources and facilities to be utilized for new local community business. For example, renovated uninhabited old houses can be made into guest houses, attracting young people from the urban areas. Local people will play active roles in this project utilizing their accumulated experience and expertise, while students, through learning as well as contributing to society together with local people, will build continued and permanent relationships with the community, feeling it as their second home village to come back. Kansai University runs this project in Aogaki-cho, Tamba City, based on the collaborative agreement between Tamba City, Hyogo Prefecture and Kansai University.
