Stanford University and Elsevier have released the "Updated science-wide author databases of standardized citation indicators," a comprehensive list identifying the top 2% of scientists worldwide, with 9 from Kansai University included in the single recent year dataset. In addition, 16 researchers are included in the "career-long" dataset. (The number of researchers are those employed at Kansai University as of the announcement date.)

The list is based on the Scopus citation database and includes the top 2% of scientists worldwide who have published at least 5 papers in 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields.
