Adopted by MEXT for "FY 2023 Support for Creation of Inter-University Exchanges with US Universities using COIL/VE Style Education"

We are pleased to announce that our joint application to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) for "FY2023 Support for Creation of Inter-University Exchanges with US Universities using COIL/VE Style Education" was adopted on September 22, 2023.

Project name: Blended Mobility Project (BMX) for Society 5.0 HR (Human Resources)
Representative applicant: Kansai University,  Domestic partner universities: Tohoku University and Chiba University

The "Inter-University Exchange Project" initiative supports Japanese students studying abroad and accepting international students while ensuring the quality of higher education in order to cultivate global human resources and strengthen the international development of university education.

Blended Mobility ("BM") refers to "an approach to education that combines online teaching materials and opportunities for online interaction with traditional place-based education." While utilizing the experience gained from the COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) method that the University introduced in FY2014 and which was adopted as an inter-university exchange project in FY2018, we will also promote the development of Society 5.0 human resources through organically combining online education and actual study abroad.

The three universities will also collaborate to launch an organization called JIGE (Japan hub for Innovative Global Education) as a platform for developing next-generation international education models based on BM and promoting their deployment throughout Japan. JIGE will work on training (capacity building) for BM educators, promoting and testing the effectiveness of online international education, and developing digital certificates of academic achievement in Japan.
