KU-CSUB COIL Kick-Off: Exploring “Places That Bring You Ease” Across Cultures
The KU–CSUB Blended Mobility Program launched its COIL activities with a kick-off session focused on the theme “Places That Bring Us Ease.” The session introduced students to the idea that comfort and wellbeing are shaped not only by physical spaces, but also by relationships, routines, memories, nature, and cultural or spiritual practices. As part of the preparation, students shared a short video or photo reflecting a place or source of ease in their own lives.
During the live online session on May 22, students and facilitators came together for introductions and guided discussions in breakout rooms. Participants shared their selected “places of ease” and reflected on what makes spaces feel comfortable or inclusive, and how these experiences may differ across individuals and cultural backgrounds. The session, faciloitated by Professor Zelda Marquardt from the Faculty of Health and Well-being, Kansai Univesity and Professor Jonathan Young from Religious Studies, California State University Bakersfield, marked the beginning of a series of collaborative exchanges aimed at fostering intercultural understanding and dialogue.
