KU-NYP Global Innovators Challenge COIL Project 2024
Kansai University concludes The Global Innovators Challenge Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) project in collaboration with the School of Business Management, Nanyang Polytechnic, Singapore. The collaboration enhances both universities' experiences in exploring new opportunities to create new businesses they can promote in Japan. The project spans six weeks of online collaborative research on creating a new product or service and business model they presented in the final presentation.
The project began with each group introducing themselves to their group. KU students shared some problems or challenges they found in their daily lives while living in Japan. With the knowledge that KU learned from the Business and Japanese People course led by Prof. Aisyah Astari, the student proposed ideas to solve that problem through joint brainstorming activities. In the second meeting, the NYP students, led by Prof. Daniel Lim and Sarah Khoo, shared their initiated business models corresponding to KU students' proposed ideas and worked as a team to create their group pitch deck.
The final presentation was conducted to conclude the project collaboration with six teams explaining their unique product or service to solve daily life problems, followed by market size opportunities and a comprehensive business model strategy using business model canvas. Ideas include creating a healthy, convenient finding machine that makes healthy snack options affordable and convenient and helps local farmers, glasses that can do translation when you speak, a Mobile application to simplify social planning for meeting new friends, a Pocket helper mobile application that can provide mental health support and life or academic guidance to students, International dining experience of small plated dishes restaurant, and mobile app e-scooter rentals for students to move around in the campus area. This project allows the students to solve society or life challenges by collaboratively creating a new project, enhancing teamwork and cross-cultural communication skills, and widening their international perspective.
