COIL Plus Program to Thailand was held

Seven KU students recently took part in the COIL Plus program in Thailand, held from September 11th to September 17th. During their time in Thailand, they served as teaching assistants and conducted language and cultural exchange activities with students at our partner institution, Panyapiwat Institute of Management (PIM).

The journey began with a warm welcome as the students were invited to a delightful lunch, where they enjoyed authentic Pad Thai Noodles prepared by PIM's culinary school students. Additionally, they participated in an orientation session, where they gained insights into PIM and its parent company, CP All Group, known for its management of the Seven Eleven franchise in Thailand.

After some training,  the KU students transitioned into their teaching roles. On the first and third days, they collaborated with PIM students in an Introductory Japanese course, focusing on the concept of the potential verb in the Japanese language. Employing interactive games like fruit basket and gesture activities, they explained and practiced the various applications of this grammatical. The students also facilitated various themed discussions about Japanese culture.

On the second and fourth days, the KU students lent their assistance to a Japanese business presentation class. Here, they delivered business presentations on innovative and popular Japanese products, such as Japanese air fryers and yukatas. These presentations spurred engaging group discussions that explored the differences between Thai and Japanese business cultures and presentation styles.

Beyond the classroom, the students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in Thai culture through various sessions and field trips. For instance, they learned the Thai alphabet and basic greeting expressions at a session held at PIM's Multicultural Exchange Center. They also gained insights into Thai games and festivals through a session organized by PIM students

This year’s program featured visits to the Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Ayutthaya, Chatuchak Weekend Market, and Bangkok. After classes, the students also explored various other parts of Bangkok together with PIM students.

The COIL Plus program in Thailand provided KU students with a unique and enriching experience that allowed them to contribute to cross-cultural education while also deepening their understanding of Thai culture and society. It also resulted in new and long-lasting friendships.

The COIL Plus Summer program marked another success, and IIGE remains dedicated to extending and enhancing blended mobility programs in the future.
