On the 5th day of the Global Career Mind Program with UCB, Kansai University students kicked off the morning with a reflection period, followed by guest lectures from Softbank Vision Fund Portfolio Company, MAPBOX Japan. Chief Business Officer Ben Truscello and CEO Toru Takata (profiles below gave an overview of the company's history and growth, transitioning from the previous day's theme of "Technologies that are Changing the World." After the presentation, the students were given the opportunity to ask questions about app development and server networking, target marketing, and data collection in preparation for their final presentations.

 

In the second and third sessions of the day, Brett Yokom walked the students through pitch delivery in a workshop on "Investor Pitches and Decks."

 

The day wrapped with a final lecture tying the two themes together.

 

The program will continue again on Monday.

Ben Truscello
VP Business Development for APAC, Mapbox & Chief Business Officer, Mapbox Japan

 

Ben leads Mapbox's APAC teams as well as working closely with Mapbox Japan. Ben joined Mapbox in 2019 to focus on expanding Mapbox's presence in APAC, working closely with SoftBank and other strategic partners. Prior to joining Mapbox, Ben led Twitter's business development for China, South East Asia, and Australia and was a manager at Deloitte. Ben also has extensive experience in the humanitarian sector, supporting crisis response and public health projects.

 

Toru Takata
CEO, Mapbox Japan

 

Toru Takata leads Mapbox Japan’s management and business execution, including map technology licensing, advertising and other new business development and recruiting efforts. Prior to joining Mapbox Japan, Takata was the manager responsible for Yahoo Japan Corporation’s advertising business and he also drove business growth at other businesses such as Criteo K.K. and BuzzFeed Japan K.K. Additionally, Takata currently leads business development and management in the Internet space as a representative of Z Corporation Inc. and is the Head of Technology Investment Strategy at SoftBank Corp leading domestic and international startups, investments and alliances.
