Announcing the Kansai University Global Citizenship and Capabilities for Society 5.0 Program
Kansai University is pleased to announce the Summer 2026 Global Citizenship and Capabilities for Society 5.0 Program, a special two-week, tuition-free program for students from partner universities!

📍 Location: Kansai University, Osaka, Japan
Application deadline: April 17th, 2026 (JST)
This blended mobility program includes two interactive online workshops (in June) followed by two immersive weeks on-site in Japan. Participants will:
- Engage in expert-led workshops on global challenges
- Explore cultural and historical sites through field visits
- Visit multiple Kansai University campuses and interact with Japanese students
- Join a diverse international learning community
Tuition-free program with scholarships available
The program fee and accommodation are free of charge for students from the 38 JIGE-affiliated partner universities. Additionally, eligible students will receive a Kansai University scholarship of 50,000 yen to support their participation.
Please note that participants are responsible for arranging and covering their own travel expenses to and from Japan, as well as food expenses during the program and the cost of tickets for some optional field visits. Students are free to arrive earlier or depart later after the program; however, they can only stay in the dorm from June 30 until July 11.
Selection criteria
Undergraduate and master’s students who are enrolled at one of the 38 JIGE-affiliated partner universities for the full duration of the program are eligible to apply (check the list here).
Visa and flight expenses: Students are responsible for obtaining the appropriate visa and covering their travel expenses to and from Japan. Kansai University does not provide visa support.
Academic requirements and English proficiency: Applicants must be in good academic standing (recommended minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale). The program is conducted entirely in English, with a minimum English proficiency level of CEFR B1.
Application documents: Applicants need to submit the following documents by the application deadline:
1) Letter of recommendation from the home university
2) English language proficiency certification (students who completed their primary education in English are not required to submit this certification)
3) Certificate of enrollment
4) Academic transcript(s)
5) Motivation letter
A total of 25 students will be accepted. If the number of applicants exceeds this limit, IIGE will conduct a selection process.
