Malaysia Blended Mobility program: Day 1

The first day of the 2024 Malaysia Blended Mobility program marked a vibrant blend of academic enrichment, cultural exploration, and immersive learning experiences as 7 Kansai University students along with 5 students from Rikkyo University accompanied by Kansai University Associate Professor Andrew Sowter and Program Coordinator Mariya Byvakina, joined their Malaysian peers at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

Beginning with a warm welcome and introduction to UKM by Deputy Director of UKM Global Associate Professor Dr. Tanot Unjah, the students were immediately immersed in the vibrant academic environment. Following the introduction, the program's agenda was outlined by the program’s coordinator Mrs. Nuraderrah Hasnul Hafidzan, preparing the students for an eventful week ahead.

The first session of the day was led by Associate Professor Dr. Zarina Othman from the School of Liberal Studies (Citra UKM) who delved into the intricacies of intercultural communication and facilitated discussions that provided valuable insights for the participating students.

The day continued with a captivating session on Youth and Leadership, led by Dr. Nurul Akqmie Badrul Hisham from the Institute of Ethnic Studies (KITA, UKM). Dr. Akqmie's insights into the role of youth in driving societal change and the principles of effective leadership resonated deeply with the students, igniting a sense of empowerment and purpose.
Following the academic sessions, the students embarked on a journey to Putrajaya, Malaysia's administrative capital, to explore the city's sustainable development initiatives. A visit to Putrajaya Corporation provided firsthand insights into the city's efforts in aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), underscoring Malaysia's commitment to sustainable urban development.

The cultural exploration continued with visits to the Putrajaya Wetlands Studios and the impressive Putra Mosque. A pleasant surprise awaited the students as they received an impromptu guided tour in Japanese from one of the mosque's volunteers, adding to their cultural immersion and fostering connections across different cultures.

The day ended with a peaceful riverboat cruise, providing students with a relaxing break while enjoying the beautiful scenery of Putrajaya. As the sun set, painting the city skyline with golden hues, the students reflected on the meaningful experiences of the day, eagerly looking forward to the adventures awaiting them in their exchange journey.
