ACE/AIEA INTERNATIONALIZATION COLLABORATIVE 2020
IIGE Vice Director and Kansai University Professor Keiko Ikeda took part in the 2020 ACE/AIEA Internationalization Collborative, co-presenting a session on "Building ‘Virtual’ Bridges in U.S.-Japan Higher Education" and "Engaging Emergent COIL: Virtual Exchange Initiatives in Japan, Europe and South Africa" on February 17th, as well as a Spotlight Session to promote the UMAP-COIL Joint Honors Program on February 19th in Washington D.C.
In the first session, Prof. Ikeda joined ACE Senior Programs Specialist Veronica Onorevole and State University of New York COIL Center Executive Director Mary Lou Forward in discussing the impact of COIL on U.S. and Japanese higher education institutional rtnerships, student learning, research and curricula.
In the second session, Prof. Ikeda joined COIL consultant Jon Rubin, Cornelius Hagenmeier (University of the Free State), and Sarah Guth (University of Padua) in discussing COIL infrastructure at their respective universities to facilitate internationalization through COIL.
In the Spotlight Session, "Promoting Student Mobility in Asia and the Pacific", Prof. Ikeda joined Shingo Ashizawa (Toyo University/UMAP), Randall Martin (British Columbia Council for International Education), Kotaro Oe (Embassy of Japan), and Lee Sternberger (Western Washington University) in "introducing successful examples of government sponsored mobility programs and multilateral consortia".
The purpose of this year's Collaborative, cohosted by the American Council on Education (ACE) and the Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA), was to "...highlight ways that higher education institutions are proactively developing and incorporating internationalization strategies to be socially responsible and inclusively civic-minded on their campuses, and in their international partnerships."
