Global Conversations: DePaul University

De Paul University organizes a unique and meaningful opportunity for students from around the world in their virtual event: Global Conversations.

The Global Conversations are a safe space for students from around the world to share and reflect on a variety of engaging and relevant topics.

Sajjad Pouromid and Elvita Wiasih from IIGE, Kansai University together with John Klein and Carolyn Bronstein from De Paul University co-facilitated "The Language of the Post-COVID World". In this 90 minutes session, students are prompted to think the connection between language and culture.

During the breakout time, students discussed new words and/or terms that they started using since the start of the pandemic, their meanings, and how they perceive each word.

The event closed with an activity in which participants worked together to create new words to describe some of the complexities we imagine for post-COVID life. The word "futureful" was voted unanimously as a word that captures post-pandemic hopefulness.
