QS Apple 2020: IIGE Presentations
IIGE Vice-Director, Professor Keiko Ikeda presented at QSApple2020, which was held 100% online on Wednesday, November 26th. Her breakout session, in which she co-presented with Professor Toshiyuki Yamamoto, "Generating a Smart Campus Design with Cloud Based Pedagogical Scheme: Some Illustrations and Proposals" explored how COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) /Virtual Exchange can be incorporated into courses to ensure cross-cultural awareness and understanding during the time of the pandemic when student mobility is strictly limited.
Specially Appointed Assistant Professor Sajjad Pouromid also presented in a session during the conference, held a joint breakout session panel titled "The Ecological Responsibility of International Education in the Wake of a Global Pandemic" together with Mr. Alex Chisholm (QS Quacquarelli Symonds) and Dr. Sintho Ardie (IPB University). The session revolved around the ecological responsibility of international education in preparing future citizens who are aware of their role in the ecosystem and equipped with skills and knowledge to tackle environmental challenges. In the absence of physical mobility due to the current pandemic, the session proposed mobility of knowledge as a new agenda for international education, through which teaching and knowledge, rather than students and faculty, become virtually mobile with the help of technology. Examples were also provided from Collaborative online International Learning (COIL) projects at Kansai University illustrating how virtual exchange can enable geographically distant students to team up and develop core competencies required to take environmental actions.
