Session 3: No More "Empty Words" - Sustainable Development at The Core of Higher Education

Wednesday, September 21, 2022 | 9:30 - 10:30AM (JST) / (Tuesday, September 20, 2022 | 8:30 - 9:30PM EST)

Format: Webinar

Length: 60 minutes

Cost: FREE

Language: English

The purpose of this session is to introduce activities, programs and research projects that portray the engagement 3 different universities show for sustainable development: CEU Valencia (Europe), Kansai University (Japan) and Florida International University (USA). These three HEI are changing their campus environment towards an all-encompassing sustainable culture, acting on academics, research and community.

Providing a blueprint on how to manage and deliver the behavioural changes needed is a difficult task but will undoubtedly go through these stages: defining your identity and mission, designing a masterplan accordingly (including courses syllabuses, university life, research projects, publications, and investments) and, from there on, communicating it.

The experience of Kansai University will focus on the educational content, as it has been following a systematic configuration of academic projects such as COIL, being ESD (Education for Sustainable Development) the driving force conceptualization of their SDGs-bound COIL/VE. Florida International University will share their best practices in research with its ambitious lines of investigation regarding Global Learning Initiatives, inclusion and development. CEU Valencia has dived into a communication project to enhance staff and student’s sustainability skills through continuous educational content in its communication strategy.

*Registration for the third session will be open until Tuesday, September 20, 2022 (JST)
