Summer 2025 MCP “Mental Health and Well-Being” Concludes

The Japan Multilateral COIL/VE Project (MCP) at Kansai University has successfully concluded its Summer 2025 program, Mental Health and Well-Being. This engaging course brought together students from around the world to explore diverse perspectives on mental health, emotional resilience, and well-being in today’s interconnected society.

Designed to foster awareness and understanding of mental health as a global issue, the course featured thought-provoking lectures and discussions on topics such as stress management, mindfulness, intercultural empathy, emotional intelligence, and the impact of digital environments on mental health. The sessions were led by distinguished professors: Prof. Keiko Ikeda (Kansai University) and Prof. Don Bysouth (Kansai University).

Through Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL), students examined case studies, shared personal and cultural insights, and worked together to develop strategies for promoting well-being in educational and community settings. A highlight of the program was the group project, in which participants created digital campaigns and storytelling videos raising awareness about mental health challenges across cultures. The final presentations reflected not only their creativity and teamwork but also their deepened understanding of empathy, diversity, and global cooperation.

This summer, the program welcomed 55 students from Japanese universities as well as partner institutions in the U.S., Brazil, Honduras, Philippines, Spain and United Kingdom, emphasizing the continued expansion and inclusivity of the J-MCP network.

About the MCP program

The Japan Multilateral COIL/VE Project (MCP) is an innovative online education initiative developed by Kansai University in collaboration with multiple Japanese and international institutions. It provides university lecturers and students with a unique opportunity to participate in multilateral COIL/Virtual Exchange (VE) courses, crossing institutional boundaries to foster global engagement.

J-MCP courses, offered twice annually during the Spring and Summer breaks, run for 3-5 weeks and consist of 10 synchronous sessions focusing on key global competencies. Past course topics have included 21st Century Skills, SDGs & Business, Diversity & Inclusion, Social Entrepreneurship, and Skills for Society 5.0. Upon completion, students receive credits and/or digital credentials recognizing their achievements in international collaboration and problem-solving.

As a free and inclusive program, MCP continues to provide students with valuable international learning experiences, preparing them to become future global leaders.
