CU-KU COIL Plus/Laboratory Internship Program 2024: Final Presentations

The 2024 CU-KU COIL Plus/Laboratory Internship Program marked another successful year of Blended Mobility collaboration between Kansai University and Clemson University. This summer program provided participants the chance to visit Japan and engage in collaborative research with professors and students from the Kansai University Department of Chemistry and Materials Engineering.

Prior to their departure to Japan, Clemson University students participated in virtual meetings with their Kansai University peers to familiarize themselves and complete weekly tasks to prepare for their collaborative research projects and stay in Japan.

Upon arriving in Japan, the 13 American students were given the opportunity to pursue their own team research projects together with their Japanese peers. The final presentations covered a diverse range of themes, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of the program. The main focus of the program this year was on the issues connected with aging populations in Japan and the USA and the ways to solve them. The final presentations examined various aspects of this topic such as diet trends for the elderly in Japan and the US, nursing homes, healthy life expectancy between Japan and the US, and differences between American and Japanese social security systems and health insurance plans.

This program continues to foster international collaboration, providing invaluable experiences for all participants and contributing to the global exchange of knowledge and culture.
