Citizenship and Minority Research Team

The team researches on formation and recognition of the concept of citizenship, the possibility that the new concept of citizenship would be formed in the present nation-state (especially in case of an Asian nation–state) and minority.

A nation-state is under responsibility of a group of persons who share its citizenship (=which hitherto had been “citizen”). Settlement of citizenship was indispensable to the formation and unification of a nation-state.

However, performance of the responsibility can also constantly create the other different group of persons. Under the performance, there lies the fact that differences occur within a national border. Then how legal process should manage with (standardize) the situation and shape the “form of the nation-state”, which is a difficult matter that even seems to be getting more difficult in these past few years. Minority can said to be a constant result of the reconciliation between the nation-state’s “borderline demarcation” and the inner part. Furthermore, under global recession, the status quo of minority tends to become an indicator for global “citizen” status. This research team finds out the possibility for formation of the post-21st century “Global Citizen” beyond the “illusion” called a nation.
