Significance and Originality of the Research

The significance and originality of the research can be described as the following two points;

Firstly, the research introduces and issue on the new aspect and method related to “Minority”. Having based on the former “human rights” approach method, and the sociological approach, the research focused on the discussion of Minority and the 21st century nation-state (the issue on a Nation with Global Citizen) beyond the limit of these approaches.

Secondly, the research studies on formation of the new “Global Citizen” and minority. By transforming minority’s significance from a subject on the fringe into the subject of border; and consequently, to the “fusion” of such “borders”, the “Minority” will affect significantly on the conventional status of a “National boundary” and the meaning of a “Nation”. Accordingly, the research uses minority as a mean to consider the subject matter of the Nation-State, which is transforming from “Nation” to “Global-Citizen” and also the state of tension caused by the deconstruction of the State; the change of its significance into the law and psychological “state”. These significant features reflect the originality of the research.

 “Minority Studies” : the specialty of Kansai University

The research is distinguished for its purpose of establishing the research ground for “minority study” and has been systematically and continuously developing these specialties.

First, the research on “Legal Culture of Asia and Minority” intertwines with Kansai University’s Global CEO Program on several points; “the study of negotiation in Far-East Asia Culture” and “The Approach from the outside”. Mutual development is expected from collaboration of these researches.

Second, the interdisciplinary research on “Minority” has collaborated with the accumulating researches of Kansai University’s Office of Human Rights (established since 1985) and became the foundation for minority research which is well-recognized domestically and internationally. Consequently, this contributes to improvement in education and research of “Minority” in Faculty and Graduate school; and establishes the foundation for the leading research and education with specialty.
