For Kansai University students who wish to study abroad
Kansai University provides support to students who wish to fly abroad to study with "youthful motivation." A wide range of study abroad programs and support programs for studying abroad are arranged to match the needs of students, including programs organized by the Division of International Affairs for all Kansai University students and those organized by each Faculty/Graduate School, and the Career Center.
This program allows students to study at an overseas university that has entered into a partnership agreement with Kansai University (hereinafter referred to as "Partner University") for one or two semesters.
The period of studying abroad counts as a period of studying at Kansai University and the credits earned can be transferred to Kansai University.
While you have to pay tuition fees to Kansai University, you will be exempt from the tuition fees of the Partner University.
Moreover, you will be awarded a scholarship from the Kansai University international exchange aid fund.
This program allows students to study abroad upon obtaining approval of their faculty or graduate school. In the specialty course, you are able to take special subjects relating to your specialty in overseas undergraduate or graduate courses.

In the midterm foreign language training course, you mainly receive foreign language training at a language school attached to a regular university. Students who wish to study a foreign language from the basics or who wish to improve their language skills for job hunting often apply for this program.
Kansai University offers short-term, study-abroad programs in which students can study English or another language for about three to four weeks during summer or spring vacation from among various countries overseas.
This language seminar program enables you not only to study a language at an overseas university but also to feel and experience the culture, history, mindsets and customs of your destination country through after-school activities, excursions and local life. This program provides you with valuable opportunities not merely to develop your language skills but also to develop international common sense.
This study abroad program incorporates "COIL," (Collaborative Online International Learning) a learning method in which students in various countries collaborate online and work on projects in a variety of fields.
As the name suggests, this program is designed to give students a “trial run” of studying abroad. It is a short-term study abroad program created to allow even those with no prior international experience to participate casually as a “trial.” The program content varies by destination and is designed around the theme of “multicultural co-learning”—a concept distinct from typical study abroad programs—featuring opportunities to learn alongside local students and peers from around the world, as well as activities that go beyond traditional classroom instruction.
International Service Learning Programs
The students can develop a foundation for becoming international cooperation experts by passing selection criteria for international cooperation volunteer activities (e.g., JICA’s overseas cooperation volunteers or activities of the United Nations or an NGO) or international internships (e.g., internship at a foreign ministry) sponsored by external organizations, and participating in the activities.
This program focuses on enabling students to develop the skills and competency required of "Kansai University students with initiative" through original projects while being accompanied by faculty staff members of the University. * Note: This program is not offered in academic year 2016.
[Overseas] This program allows students to develop the cross-cultural understanding and skills required for adapting to international settings through various activities while living with children at the House of Joy, an orphanage on Mindanao Island in the Philippines.
[In Japan] In this program, students participate in volunteer activities at Children and Child Rearing Plaza in Chuo Ward for two hours from 6 p.m. every Tuesday for the purposes of providing study support and creating a space for children with foreign culture backgrounds. Enforced learning and Japanese language learning are provided by volunteers on a one-to-one basis. In addition to conventional education classes, there are activities for children to receive social training and play a role in society.
This program lets you experience life overseas for around 1 to 3 weeks during the summer or spring vacation. The destinations are safe, and the contents of the program are familiar and include a number of fulfilling activities. Thus this program is easy to take part in even for students who will be going overseas for the first time. This experience program aims to introduce you to something new and help you to determine your next goal.
During summer and spring breaks, students can participate in a variety of programs organized by universities and affiliated institutions abroad. These programs are characterized by their diverse themes, which go beyond language study. They offer an excellent opportunity to explore not only your major but also new academic fields.
This program allows students to develop their communication skills in a foreign language, learn and experience the local economy and culture of their destination country, and gain specialized expertise in international economics, in order to play an active role in the world in this global age.
A unique program offered by the School of Business that specializes in business English. In addition to classroom instruction, students gain hands-on experience in the British business world through visits to commercial facilities and the planning of business projects, with the goal of improving their business English skills. In partnership with the University of York in the UK, students stay in university dormitories for an intensive short-term study program. The program also includes opportunities to learn about the tourism industry at nearby tourist attractions.
In the fourth year, we offer intensive instruction in project management and business English through small-class instruction with two classes of 15 students each. Students put their projects into practice through collaboration with companies and faculty, overseas English workshops in partnership with global corporations, and the collection and statistical analysis of data. The program includes guidance on English presentations from faculty specializing in business English, sessions at partner institutions abroad, and joint research with venture companies.

Thailand plays a pivotal role in Southeast Asia, a region experiencing remarkable economic growth. This program is designed to help students understand the current state of economic development in Southeast Asia by studying ongoing economic development projects and regional revitalization efforts in English at Burapha University, a leading institution in the region designated as a national project area for economic development. Open to students in their second year or higher.
Aiming to foster an understanding of multicultural societies and international well-being—key considerations in an increasingly globalized world—students will engage in experiential learning about local cultures, lifestyles, and community welfare.
Prior to departure, students will review basic precautions for traveling abroad, acquire foundational knowledge of the local language, history, culture, economy, and community welfare, and prepare for the fieldwork to be conducted on-site. Additionally, a faculty member will accompany the group during the trip.
Through joint courses with local universities and learning in cross-cultural environments, students will cultivate the ability to think independently, express their ideas, and embrace diverse values. By deepening their knowledge and practical skills in human health studies, the program aims to enhance students’ communication skills so they can thrive across national and cultural boundaries. Prior to departure, students participate in preparatory sessions—either in person or online—ensuring they are well-prepared for the trip. Additionally, a faculty chaperone will accompany the group during the trip.
This program, conducted in collaboration with other universities, offers participants the opportunity to see and experience Silicon Valley firsthand through guidance from professionals active on the front lines in San Francisco and Silicon Valley. Amid increasing globalization, participants will explore how the world is changing and chart their own paths forward. Through “company visits in Silicon Valley, the heart of the IT industry,” and “interactions with local university students,” the program aims to cultivate true “global talent.”
This program is provided in collaboration with Chung Yuan Christian University in Taiwan. Unique to the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, the program aims to foster sociality, internationality, and independence through diverse activities in foreign countries. Its main feature is the provision of opportunities abroad to experience multiple activities on site.
Students will stay in a research laboratory and work independently on research projects related to electrical, electronic, and information engineering under the guidance of local faculty and with the cooperation of local students. By engaging in research projects that are more advanced than those in the second-year overseas training program, students will hone the skills necessary to become researchers and engineers capable of thriving on the global stage. This is a unique program offered by the Department of Electrical, Electronic, and Information Engineering designed to foster social skills, international awareness, and initiative through a variety of activities.

The three science and engineering faculties offer opportunities to study and conduct research alongside international students, fostering English proficiency and global thinking skills. This approximately one-month short-term study abroad program, designed for third- and fourth-year students, allows participants to cultivate international sensibilities and multifaceted perspectives through various activities—such as conducting experiments, participating in seminars, and engaging in student exchanges—at laboratories of partner universities with which we have Double Degree (DD) agreements for master’s programs. It is a valuable opportunity for students interested in pursuing a Double Degree in graduate school to experience research activities firsthand.
This program is compulsory for all students of the Faculty of Foreign Language Studies. This program is designed such that students can develop not only linguistic and specialized knowledge but also skills to "survive" by experiencing the local culture and history of their destination country through dormitory life or a home-stay.
This program allows students who participate in the Study Abroad Program (SA Program) offered by the Faculty of Foreign Language Studies and who meet certain requirements to earn two degrees in four years from Kansai University and Beijing Foreign Studies University by extending the period of study abroad by six months to obtain the required credits.
This is a support program for research cooperation mainly for graduate students enrolled in the Graduate School of Letters. This program is provided as part of the sub-major subject "EU-Japanology." The graduate students, in cooperation with those of our partner universities, hold workshops and events.
Through this program, you will be awarded a master's degree from both Kansai University and Yeungnam University at the same time. To do so, you need to study at Yeungnam University for one year after entering the master's degree program at the Graduate School of Letters, Graduate School of Foreign Language Education and Research, or Graduate School of East Asian Culture (the first semester) at Kansai University. Then you have to satisfy the requirements for completion of the programs of both universities (passing tests designated by each graduate school, including thesis examination for the master's degree).
Students spend one year studying at Aston University Graduate School starting in the fall semester of their first year of the Master’s program. Under the guidance of both this Graduate School and Aston University Graduate School, students earn the required credits. Upon submitting a master’s thesis, students can obtain master’s degrees from both universities.
This program serves as the culmination of our Graduate School’s “Japanese Language Education Specialist Training Course,” providing students with the opportunity to conduct Japanese language teaching practicums at Tamkang University.
This program allows students admitted to the Master’s Program in the Graduate School of Science and Engineering at Kansai University to study abroad for one year at either National Central University in Taiwan, Chung Yuan Christian University in Taiwan, or the University of Giessen in Germany (either “Fall semester of the first year and Spring semester of the second year” or “Spring semester of the first year and Fall semester of the first year”). Upon fulfilling the graduation requirements of both universities, students will be awarded a Master’s degree from Kansai University as well as a Master’s degree from the host university.
This program sends students to participate in practical training abroad organized by JICA as part of the regular curriculum. The aim is to deepen students’ understanding and insight into the broader field of law and broaden their horizons as legal scholars by gaining knowledge of the current state and future prospects of local legal frameworks and judicial systems, as well as by learning about differences in approach compared to Japan.
The Graduate School of Sociology sends graduate students to participate in the ICPSR Summer Program in Quantitative Methods of Social Research, held at the University of Michigan in the United States for one month during the summer vacation, with the aim of improving graduate students’ statistical analysis and English language skills.
Professional studying abroad counselors provide students who are interested in studying abroad or participating in an internship or volunteer program abroad with information and know-how on studying abroad, and provide support for and advice on their plans and future career on a case-by-case basis.
Students who studied abroad provide information based on their own experiences. They can share information that only a person with actual experience can provide. If you want to speak to a study abroad peer advisor, visit the Division of International Affairs office between the second and fourth periods (including lunch time) on a weekday during the school period.
Students who take TOEFL iBT and IELTS for the purpose of applying for the Student Exchange Program can receive a subsidy for examination fees (10,000 yen per exam). The purpose of this subsidy is to encourage students to obtain scores required to apply for these programs and provide economic assistance for expensive examination fees. The University expects many inspired students to apply for the Student Exchange Program by using this system.
