Since I experienced short-term study abroad, I became more positively active.

I thought that I would definitely regret it if I didn’t go. Ever since I was a first-year student, I wanted to study abroad while I was still a student at university. I wanted to feel things from other perspectives and experience a culture different from Japan. At that time, my friend invited me to join an exchange party with foreign students. I was able to spend a meaningful time and had a lot of fun there. This increased my desire to go abroad.
Our university has various types of short-term and long-term study abroad programs. Although I was planning to take the certified study abroad program, considering the various activities I was involved in and what I wanted to do, I thought that it would be difficult to study abroad for half a year. I eventually decided to take the short-term language seminar.

Great satisfaction with excellent lectures and abundant activities During my study abroad, I went to a special course consisting of only Kansai University students for one month. The course has the theme "Let's Learn Business English". We visited companies and collected information. After that, we gave a presentation in English on the company we visited. It was very difficult for me to make an English presentation with other members, but my teacher's support was great, and I felt a sense of accomplishment along with other members. It was very fulfilling. We also enjoyed a lot of sightseeing and activities. Since the class consisted of only Kansai University students, we did not have much opportunity to meet with local students, but at the exchange party, we had a lot of fun laughing and having dinner together.

When I felt confident that I could speak a little English, life there was becoming more enjoyable, but then I had to return home. The course ended so quickly.

I had never been abroad, and I could not speak English fluently. I was worried whether I could talk to my host family well, but they tried so hard to understand my poor English and when I did not understand words, they used translation software. They were very kind. Thanks to that, by about the second week, I had become more relaxed and was able to speak the necessary minimum for daily conversation. When I felt like I could speak a little English and life there was getting more enjoyable, I had to return home. I felt a sense of fulfillment, but at the same time, I felt I wanted to stay longer. As this class consisted only of Kansai University students, I often spoke Japanese. Moreover, I studied in my room for 2 to 3 hours every day, so I didn’t have much time to talk with my host family. I should have spent more time speaking English.

Now that I have a wider view than before, I am looking forward to working for society.

All the lessons were conducted in English, so I listened intensively and worked seriously. Also, I shared questions with other students for deeper understanding. Looking back on my study attitude so far, I felt that I had never worked so hard. After returning to Japan, I started trying to study and engage in research activities more seriously than ever before. I am especially trying to study with other research group members.
The program was only a month, but meeting people with a different culture and sense of values widened my perspective. Moreover, the ability to communicate with various people strengthened my self-confidence. It is a big advantage for me when I start working for society.

Compared to other campuses, the Takatsuki Muse Campus has less students, so you can enjoy a quiet study environment. In addition, the Faculty of Societal Safety Sciences is a unique faculty where students can study multifaceted fields related to safety and security. It is very enjoyable to study something related to our own lives that can often happen to us from the perspectives of various academic fields. In addition, I am learning dance in a “yosakoi dance circle” called Han Mai and I go to the Senriyama campus three times a week. Because of this, I went to the Division of International Affairs located in the Senriyama campus and collected information on studying abroad, and I also obtained information from friends at other faculties. If I make efforts to actively obtain information on other campuses, my student life can be enriched, even though my faculty is located on an isolated campus.

About the entrance exams I enrolled at this university through a designated school recommendation. Originally, I was aspiring to study commerce, but then I discovered the Faculty of Societal Safety Sciences, which is a faculty which integrates the arts and sciences. Since I hadn’t clearly determined a field of study, I thought that it would be good if I could find something I want to study from a wide range of fields. That is the reason I selected this faculty.
