Questions about the job!

What are your reasons for applying for a job at the company?
To do a job through which I can provide people with enjoyment and pleasure (I mainly applied for companies in the mass media and travel industries). Additionally, the type of job I wanted to do was a sales job in which I can be directly involved with many people. As the job of a travel agency is literally to sell travel products to customers, I can make them happy from my own proposals and can also talk to many people. I applied for the company because I thought that I could come into contact with various kinds of values by meeting many people and visiting tourist spots.
What are the contents of your job?
My job involves selling group travel products mainly for Kyoto.
The job of selling group travel products targets a wide range of customers and also has a lot to be done. While I mainly perform sales activities related to company trips, incentive trips, and business trips for corporations (companies), I also visit universities, government and municipal offices, etc. Selling group travel products entails not only listening to the customers, but also going through all kinds of procedures, ranging from planning and proposing travel courses based on what my customers say, and then generating estimates for the travel. By being engaged in extracting demand for travel by doing “walk-in sales” every day, I think I can strengthen myself mentally. To be honest, every day is really tough. However, I feel satisfaction with my job.
What are the appeals of your job?
The appeal of my job is that I can meet and talk to many people.
As I have a lot of opportunities to talk to people of a higher rank, I can expect my personal growth. Additionally, unlike the job at the service counters, as I can create travel schedules from scratch while talking with my customers, even though I feel a great sense of responsibility, I feel satisfied when I receive their appreciation.

What was the moment you thought that you could make use of your studies in the Faculty of Societal Safety Sciences?

Having obtained awareness of safety/crisis management regarding itinerary management for travel, I think I can make full use of such awareness.
I think I became able to naturally think about what kind of risk is present, how we should respond to such risk, and how we should cope with it when something occurs while moving on a bus. There are more customers than expected that have asked about the current situation of disaster areas. When talking with such customers, I tell them about the episodes when I visited Fukushima for the field work of the seminar activities and the contents of the lectures.

What did you work hard for during your university days?

As for club activities, I enjoyed myself as part of the basketball club at the Senriyama campus. As I was able to make friends in another campus, I could have a very good time.
I used to work part-time at the Uniqlo shop in JR Takatsuki station. Having worked at the same level as a regular employee, I had been engaged in guiding my subordinates and working for everything with a sense of responsibility, together with the CS leader and a counselor of the shop manager. While I said that working there was really tough, I enjoyed the job since I was able to interact with a lot of colleagues and customers. At that time, I thought this was a really tough part-time job. However, now that I think about it, that part-time job was 100 times easier than working as a member of society. In Professor Nagamatsu’s seminar, I worked hard for the field work once a year, for the interim presentation during my third year, and at writing my graduation thesis during my fourth year, etc., and I was really happy that I could have a lot of experiences supported by my colleagues and teachers.

What are the characteristics of the Faculty of Societal Safety Sciences?

In this faculty, we can always study about the problems that modern society has.
As we can study changing problems that modern society has from the viewpoints of law, politics, business studies, etc., I believe I could study the field that I became the most interested in in 4 years. As the Faculty of Societal Safety Sciences has one seminar room per seminar, I think students can take more time for studying as compared to those in the Senriyama campus. I believe that the friends in my seminar are friends for life, so I would like you to treasure such friends. One of the advantages of the Faculty of Societal Safety Sciences is that you can be friends with everyone and expand the friendship from there. As all the students can be “friends without borders” between different years, you can lead meaningful school lives. The “Waraji katsu (cutlet)” of the school cafeteria in the Muse Campus is very popular. I love the lady at the Udon noodle corner that serves Udon noodles. Thus, I recommend that youtalk to her. As she is always kind, you will be healed when you talk to her. The Curry Soba noodle, which is a secret menu, is superb.

Lastly, please leave a message for the entrance examinees of our university/the current students!!

To the current students: I recommend that you be engaged in your seminar seriously. I was really engaged in writing my graduate thesis with my friends at the seminar seriously. Even after I became a member of society, good memories that I did my best at that time come back and I feel like doing my best because my colleagues are doing so. The first thing you should do is to play. As members of society, you have little free time, thus I recommend that you make your own memories by spending your time to your heart’s content while you are students. Please enjoy yourself.
To the entrance examinees: the Faculty of Societal Safety Sciences has a homely atmosphere and all the students are “friends without borders” between different years, so I am sure that you can have happy university days. Although you might not know what to study when you hear the name “Faculty of Societal Safety Sciences”, you can study anything here once you join the faculty. All the teachers have unique and funny characteristics. In 4 years, I am sure you can find your own “study” in which you will become interested in. Wishing you the best.
