Communication with Moanalua High School (Hawaii) using TEROOS

October 25 (Sat)
With the cooperation of the Yamazaki Laboratory, Saitama University, we communicated with Moanalua High School in Hawaii online, using TEROOS, a shoulder-mounted avatar for telecommunication developed by the Imai Laboratory, Keio University.

TEROOS, a shoulder-mounted, remotely-controlled telepresence avatar, enables you to feel as if you were close by the person at the other end of a wire.

With the help of Prof. Keiko Ikeda with Kansai University's Division of International Affairs, we conducted communication with Moanalua High School, as part of prior arrangements for a study tour to Hawaii to be implemented next year.

First, we sent video and voice to Hawaii from our classrooms through the eye of the robotic avatar (camera) and students in each class engaged in conversation about Osaka, Takatsuki, or campus life.

Next, we communicated with students in Hawaii, watching Moanalua High School through the eye of TEROOS.

This enabled us all to make prior arrangements to implement a study tour in a smooth and effective manner, as well as to share a valuable experience with the new communication tool TEROOS.
