生徒たちは終日ホストファミリーと過ごしました。
これまでの体験について、生徒たちの感想を紹介したいと思います。
写真は、カナダでの様子の振り返りです。

《生徒の感想》
日系文化センターを訪れ、戦時中の日系人の扱いについて多くのことを学びました。戦争は国と国の戦いではなく、個人にまで影響が及んでしまうという根本的なことを理解しました。
カナダでも日系人が第2次世界大戦の際に影響を受けていたことを知りませんでした。資料や講演から、世界は直接つながっているのだと実感しました。

I visited the Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre in Canada. I learned many things about the treatment of Japanese-Canadians in World War II. I understood that war is not just fighting between a country and a country, but that it also affects individual people.
I did not know that Canada had issues like these. After seeing all the materials at the Nikkei Museum and Cultural Centre, it makes me feel that all the world is directly connected.

アメリカとカナダの国境にあるピースアーチパークに行きました。ここでは国境を自由に越えることができ、初めて歩いて国境を越えました。
しかし、国境を越えたからと言って何か変わるわけでもなかったです。国境は人間が勝手に引いた境界線で、それに一喜一憂しているようではいけないと思いました。

I visited Peace Arch Park, which is on the boarder of the U.S. and Canada. We can cross the U.S. and Canadian boarder there. It was my first time crossing a boarder on foot.
But crossing the boarder did not change anything. National boarders are boundaries drawn by humans, and it would be good if we were not happy and sad about them.

前日ホストファミリーから「とても大きな橋があって、とても揺れるよ」と言われていたこともあり、とてもワクワクしていました。緑に囲まれた細くて長い大きな吊り橋が、そびえ立っていました。
海外初体験だったの私は、「これが海外でしか見れない景色なんだ」と思いました。実際にわたってみると、本当にグラグラと大きく揺れ、周りの観光客も立ち止まるほどでした。日本では体験できない大自然を経験できて大満足です。

I heard the day before from my host family that, "It is a very big bridge that swings a lot." I was very excited. The bridge was a very long surrounded by trees.
Being my first time overseas, I thought, "This can only be experienced abroad." When I crossed the bridge, it shook so much that other tourists had to stop walking. I am really satisfied with this experience in the great outdoors that cannot be had in Japan.

グラウスマウンテンへゴンドラに乗り頂上まで向かいます。窓から風が入ってきて、日本ではありえない涼しさに驚きました。男性が軽装で高さ60フィートもある木を登っていくパフォーマンスを見て、日本の規模の違いを感じました。きれいな景色が見えるベンチに座り、友達とのんびり過ごしました。ホストファミリーから「とてもいい所だよ」と聞いていたのですが、想像以上のカナダの大自然を感じることができました。

Riding to the top of Grouse Mountain in a gondola, the wind coming in the window, I am surprised by how cool it is here in Canada. Seeing a man perform with little equipment climb a 60-foot-tall tree, I felt a difference in scale between Japan and Canada. I spent time with friends sitting on a bench looking at the pretty scenery. I heard from my host family that it was a good place, but the Canadian great outdoors was more than I imagined.
