RECSIE: Special Webinar Series "The Novel Corona Crisis and International Education" - Series III

As part of the RECSIE Special Webinar Series on "The Novel Corona Crisis and International Education," IIGE Vice-Director Prof. Keiko Ikeda and Kansai University Assistant Profs. Sajjad Pouromid, Elvita Wiasih, and Jiun-Yan Wu presented a joint workshop on COIL via ZOOM on Friday, May 8th titled, "Series III : Workshop on How to Organize Virtual Exchange Programs "NOW" - An Introductory Session on the Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) Method."

In the bilingual workshop, conducted in Japanese and English (with annotation), the impact of the pandemic on higher education, with particular emphasis on VE/COIL was introduced, along with several current examples of how Kansai University IIGE professors have been handling and adapting their COIL projects to suit the unique circumstances. The presenters shared ideas for breaking the "Ice"-solation that we are currently facing with VE with easy-to-understand methods for connecting with classrooms overseas to expand students' global perspective.

The workshop finished with a 15 minute Q&A session in which participants had an opportunity to further discuss the challenges and benefits of virtual exchange in the current climate, facilitated by IIGE professors.

A subsequent workshop, hosted by RECSIE, will be held on Thursday, May 21st (10:30-11:50) on the following topic:
