RECSIE: Summer Institute on International Education Japan (Nanzan University Aug 26–28, 2019)

IIGE Vice Director Professor Keiko Ikeda, Associate Professor Don Bysouth, and Assistant Professor Elvita Wiasih presented at the Research Consortium for the Sustainable Promotion of International Education (RECSIE)'s Summer Institute on International Education Japan held at Nanzan University this week.

The event, co-sponsored by IIGE, Toyo University, and Nanzan University, offered concurrent workshop training sessions on international education for researchers and practitioners from Japan and abroad.

On day 1, Professor Ikeda (pictured above) presented a seminar on COIL practice. In this interactive seminar, she discussed the theory and basics of COIL practice, with a focus on how it differs from other online teaching methods.

On day 2, IIGE team Associate Professor Don Bysouth and Assistant Professor Elvita Wiasih (pictured above) held a workshop on EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) for COIL and the challenges around implementing COIL practice in a classroom situation. This workshop was offered in interactive format, where participants were asked to voice their opinions and concerns, and ask questions surrounding enhancing a course with COIL practice.
