On August 20th, our Joint Honors Program students spent the day onboard the Peace Boat, sailing toward their next destination of Ishinomaki. Onboard, they participated in various seminars on SDG topics in preparation for their upcoming disaster-relief fieldwork with Atlantic Pacific, an NGO rescue boat project. 

 

On August 21st, the students docked in Ishinomaki to learn more about the UK-based company whose mission is to "...identif[y] regions and communities that have high drowning rates and supplies bespoke rescue boats, mobile lifeboat stations, and highly trained volunteer crew. Atlantic Pacific’s vision is a world where no one drowns and is tackling this crisis, one lifeboat at a time."
