Expert’s Eyes

Research on seismology advanced in the second half of the 20th century. As such, the mechanism of earthquake occurrence was considerably elucidated, and the difficulty of earthquake prediction was strongly recognized on a practical level. Today, seismology is moving toward realistic disaster prevention and disaster mitigation by utilizing scientific research results. In this trend, beyond the “science of earthquakes” studied at the Faculty of Science, new research in collaboration with sectors of social safety sciences, namely engineering, humanity, social sciences, etc., is indispensable.
