1965      Founding Committeeが新しい形式の勉強・指導方法を取り入れた新しい大学を設立する方向で活動を開始             

1966      The University of Konstanz創立

1967      現行のキャンパスの建設に着手、現在に至る

コンスタンツはドイツ南端の小さな町で、スイスとの国境にあるボーデン湖に面した保養地となっている。

有名な社会学者ラルフ・ダーレンドルフ卿が協力して創立されたコンスタンツ大学は、

ドイツの大学の中でも比較的新しく、革新的な研究・指導方法を取り入れている。

2001 年には大学図書館が24時間開いている曜日を設け、ドイツ初の試みとなった。

大半の学生は法、経済、社会学部に属しており、学生数が多くない分、目の行き届いた教育を行うことができている。

また、勉強内容が国際基準に見合うようにヨーロッパ・単位制度を導入しており、英語で行われる授業も増えている為、

四季折々に楽しむことが可能な各種スポーツも手伝って留学生にも魅力的な大学となっている。
