On Friday, February 28, a joint workshop titled “New Approaches and Challenges for the Post-Fukushima Assessment of Nuclear Risk” was held in collaboration with one of our partner universities in Belgium, Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB).

The workshop featured presentations from four researchers: Professor Takahiro Wada from the Faculty of Engineering Science at Kansai University, Associate Professor Shin-etsu Sugawara from the Faculty of Societal Safety Sciences, Dr. Wouter Ryssens from the Astronomy and Astrophysics Institute at ULB, and Dr. Catrinel Turcanu from the Belgian Nuclear Research Centre SCK CEN. Following the presentations, a Q&A and exchange session took place, during which audience members actively participated by asking questions and sharing comments.

Kansai University signed an academic partnership agreement with ULB in March 2024, and this was the second joint workshop to be held. Student exchange programs are set to begin in the 2025 academic year. We look forward to further deepening our collaboration with ULB in education and research across a wide range of fields.
