IIGE Training Series - Fall 2020

Moving Forward: Shaping the New Reality of Online International Education

Educators and policy-makers around the world are called to action when COVID-19 first broke out early this year. They were handed possibly the most challenging task: to keep education going whilst keeping everyone safe. Classes were moved online, mobility programs were canceled/postponed as the world navigated the unknown.

We are now moving to the new academic term. Some institutions gradually started to open their campuses and made available for students for their campus lives. Some schools in Japan have begun offering classes in hyflex format (i.e., partially face to face and partially remotely taught), some remained to offer their classes 100% online.

As the world navigates the unknown in the midst of the global pandemic, some institutions have gradually begun to open their campuses back up to students. Things are seemingly returning to "normal," albeit cautiously and in small increments. However, the hard truth is that our work as educators is far from done.

It is perhaps time for all of us to carefully consider how the global pandemic has altered the landscape of international education. What strategies and policies will help us move forward to bring enriched international education to our students? How can our understanding of COIL/VE help shape the new reality of the world of international education?

In this online training and lecture series, IIGE is facilitating:

(i) a global dialogue on the "new normal" of international education: online international education

(ii) training on the instructional design of online class formatting, and Educational Technology for online international education.
