Expert’s Eyes

Mathematical programming is a methodology to formulate the decision-making problems occurring in various fields of natural science and social science as an optimization problem for finding the sets of variables which minimizes or maximizes the value of the objective function among sets of variables satisfying multiple restrictions. To clarify the class of optimization problems solvable quickly and accurately by using the current computer technology gives us hints on how to formulate real problems.

Remarkable File

・I was originally engaged in the development of information systems by using mathematical programming methods at a steel company. ・There was a time when I was researching parallel computing at an IT-related laboratory to which I was dispatched from the company. ・In collaboration with a teacher from my days as a student, we published a book titled "Parallel computing in mathematical programming" in 2001. I also wrote textbooks on programming, statistics, and mathematics. ・From around 2010, in collaboration with the Shiga Prefectural Lake Biwa Museum, we have been conducting research on large branchiopods, which is a species of crustacea inhabiting paddy fields. The mathematical methods such as probability theory and statistics can be applied to the study to clarify how species rise and fall due to changes in the natural environment and human activities.
