Module 8Applied Science and Engineering Japanese Science and TechnologyVarious topics related to Japanese science and technology will be presented by multiple professors representing the five different engineering fields of Environmental and Urban Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Communications Engineering, and Chemistry and Materials Engineering. Each professor will introduce their specialized area, and explain state-of-the-art technology currently being developed in each field.2 creditsFall SemesterEnvironmental BiologyThis course introduces basic concept of ecology. Based on the understanding of ecological processes, contemporary environmental issues will be discussed. Topics include population and community ecology, conservation ecology, environmental risk assessment, and biodiversity.2 creditsSpring SemesterFall SemesterInformation andCommunication TechnologiesInformation and Communication Technologies (ICT) are instrumental to daily life, work, and society. This course will focus on the academic study of ICT, focusing on the C in ICT (Communication over mechanical aspects of IT), and how people become empowered with online content creation skills. Students will learn about applications of ICT to various sectors of society in Japan and the world. They will also learn about specific technologies and platforms such as the Internet of Things and social media. Students will receive guidelines on academic writing for the short semester paper, and for the creation and delivery of presentations.
