The dual degree program between Kansai University and Webster University began in 2002. In this program, students usually come to our university after completing one year of studies at Webster. They study in Osaka for two years, and then return to St. Louis for the final year. Through four years of study, students receive Bachelor of Arts degrees from both universities.
Webster University's students can apply to study at Kansai University as dual degree students through Webster University. Dual degree students are granted academic credits based on the system applicable to regular Kansai University students. They receive many of the benefits accorded to the regular students, such as access to campus facilities (Library, IT Center, Gymnasium, etc.) and student discounts for train passes and movie tickets. Students interested in this option should contact study abroad officers.
While it is not necessary to have high level of Japanese proficiency to enter this program, it is recommended that students study for at least one year before coming to Osaka, and the better their Japanese is, the more options for study that will be open to them. During their two years in Osaka, students will continue to study Japanese language, and also take classes in Japanese studies that are taught either by Kandai faculty or by highly qualified visiting professors from the Osaka area (see syllabi from recent classes here Link).
The special course consists of the following four groups:
Students whose Japanese proficiency has reached a certain level will be allowed to take regular courses offered by each faculty. Students are allowed to earn up to 8 credits per semester, for a total of 16 throughout their enrollment at Kansai. Dual Degree students need to be enrolled for two years or longer and are required to earn 64 credits in total.
Students also have the opportunity to complete independent study tutorials on subjects which interest them, as well as a field study, wherein they do off-campus research under the supervision of a faculty member.
