“Globalizing Kandai” as Our Goal
Shinichi Ueshima, Ph. D.
Vice President
Dean, Division of International Affairs

The promotion of internationalization is considered to be a priority at Kansai University. In accordance with the university's motto “Realistic Learning”, the cultivation of an international mindset and the importance of learning foreign languages have continued to remain cornerstones of the university's educational policy since its inception.

The Division of International Affairs was established in October, 2008, to further support KU's wide range of international activities. One of the initial objectives in KU's plan to internationalize was to establish partnerships with over 50 universities overseas, send 1000 Japanese students on exchange programs, and host 500 international students in KU's campuses. Although these three numerical targets have mostly been attained, it was recognized that more structure and planning was needed to glean the most out of these intercultural exchanges in terms of quality for research and education.

The Division of International Affairs was created with this point in mind, and is responsible for facilitating, rather than directing, broader international cooperation between students and faculty through exchange programs, international symposiums, and collaborative research. The DIA is also in the process of coordinating overseas volunteer programs for students to participate in, and increase the breadth of their international understanding by giving opportunities to make a direct contribution to the international community.

In summary, Kansai University's Division of International Affairs aims to catalyze a global and proactive mindset through international exchange, work with students and researchers to satisfy their needs, and promote international development cooperation.
