KU-COIL x BEVI presentation at APAIE 2019 in Malaysia

On March 27th, Professors Keiko Ikeda (COIL plus and IIGE, Kansai University), Craig Shealy & Lee Steinburger(iBAVI, James Madison University), and Dr. Hajime Nishitani (BEVI-j, Hiroshima University) conducted a parallel session at APAIE 2019 Malaysia.

The workshop, "COIL-BEVI Project 2018-2022: Understanding Students' Transformational Learning through Virtual Exchange" addressed the rapidly growing trend in adopting a method of virtual exchange (COIL/Collaborative Online International Learning) in higher ed. international education.

The Institute for Innovative Global Education (IIGE), Kansai University understands the importance of assessment in an educational project such as COIL initiative. IIGE is collaborating with International Beliefs and Values Institute (IBAVI), developing assessment methods to measure students transformational learning through COIL projects using Beliefs, Events, and Values Inventory (BEVI).

The newly launched COIL-BEVI research project, which investigates the learning effects, such as intercultural competence, of this particular pedagogy, was introduced and attendees were provided with the details of the BEVI to understand students’ transformation process in participating in virtual exchange.
