International Students Gather at Muse Campus !

On December 16, 2023, international students studying Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) in the Kansai region gathered at Takatsuki Muse Campus to network and share their research ideas and results. There were 42 participants from 15 countries from Kyoto University, Kobe University, Asian Disaster Reduction Center (ADRC), and Kansai University.

Prof. Samaddar Subhajyoti of DPRI, Kyoto University gave a keynote lecture on Integrated Disaster Risk Management, arguing that disaster risks should not be managed in isolation, but together with other risks such as health or livelihood risks. Ms. Miki Kodama, Research Director at ADRC also gave a keynote presentation on the disaster risks in Asian countries and the development of the ADRC's activities.

The presentations were followed by a student poster session. All participants enjoyed discussions with 15 poster presenters over food and drinks. Prof. Shoji Tsuchida, the

Dean of the Graduate School of Societal Safety Science closed the meeting with the remarks promising that the school will continue the networking next year.

This meeting was hosted by Ph.D. course for Disaster Management (PDM) at the Graduate School of Societal Safety Sciences, Kansai University being affiliated with Integrated Disaster Risk Management (IDRiM) Society and the Avoidable Deaths Network (ADN).
